Purchaser - Manufacturing

The role

A purchasing post for a precision manufacturing business that makes made-to-order mechanical parts and assemblies for customers in the process industries. The advert is placed by Echelon Engineers, a recruiter working for that business, and the job is in Dronfield. It is a hands-on role in the operations team.

What you'd do

• Run purchasing from start to finish for raw materials, machining and secondary processing.
• Build and keep good working relationships with suppliers, looking after quality, reliability and cost.
• Work with production, fabrication and stores so stock levels stay right.
• Negotiate prices, lead times and terms while keeping quality high.
• Check that everything bought meets engineering and quality requirements.
• Keep accurate records and follow the company's buying procedures.
• Help with ongoing improvements across the supply chain.

What they're looking for

• Proven experience buying for manufacturing in a mechanical or precision engineering setting.
• Able to read technical drawings, bills of materials and engineering specifications.
• An understanding of machining, raw materials and fabrication.
• A strong mechanical background and a taste for taking ownership of getting parts delivered on time, to specification and on budget.
