What's On Dronfield — Terms of use

Who we are

What's On Dronfield is a trading name of GAGE SPORTING SERVICES LTD ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales, company no. 16585275. Registered office: 5 Westbrook Court, Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield, S11 8YZ. Contact: info@whatsondronfield.co.uk, or the contact form on the site.

What these terms cover

These terms cover using the What's On Dronfield website and app: browsing, your account, saving events, following businesses, messaging a business, and sending us events, posters, story ideas or jobs. By using the site you agree to them. How we use your information is in our privacy policy. If you look after a business on What's On Dronfield, our business terms apply to that as well.

Browsing

Anyone can browse What's On Dronfield without an account, and it's free. We check what we publish as best we can, but events change, jobs fill and businesses close. Check the details with the organiser, employer or business before you set off, apply or pay for anything.

Your account

  • Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. If you're under 18, please don't make one. If we find an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll close it.
  • One account per person, in your own name, with details that are true.
  • Keep your sign-in safe. Don't share your password. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure too. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
  • You can stop at any time. You can delete your account yourself from your account page. Deleting your account deletes you, not a business: a business listing you ran stays on the site, with the other people who run it or as an unclaimed business with its details and phone number. If you want it taken off as well, contact us before you delete your account.

Using the site fairly

Don't:

  • use What's On Dronfield for anything illegal, or to help anyone break the law;
  • pretend to be someone else, or to speak for a business or organisation you don't;
  • make accounts automatically, or more than one for yourself;
  • get round a limit, a pause or a block we've put in place;
  • try to break, overload or get into parts of the site that aren't meant for you;
  • copy large parts of the site to run a rival service, or to collect people's or businesses' details.

Things you send us

You can send us an event, a poster, a photo of a notice, some words or a link, a story idea, or a job.

  • Send only what you have the right to share. A poster or photo should be one you made, or one its owner is happy to see shared to publicise their event.
  • Don't send other people's personal details — a private phone number, an address, a photo of someone — unless they've said you can.
  • Nothing you send is published until it has been checked, by us or, for an event at a business that runs its listing here, by that business. We may shorten it, correct it, rewrite it in our own words or decide not to use it. We don't have to tell you why.
  • You let us use what you send to run What's On Dronfield: to publish it, show it on the site, in the app, in our emails and newsletter, and in posts that share our listings, and to keep it for as long as it's useful. You still own it. You can ask us to take down something you sent, and we will.
  • What you send is read by an AI model to draft the details, as the privacy policy explains. A person or the business always checks the draft before it's published.

Posting a job as a private individual

If you post a job for yourself — not for a business — such as a cleaner, a gardener or help with a move:

  • An administrator checks every job before it goes on the board, and may decline it.
  • The job must be real, legal and yours to offer, and the advert true.
  • It must not discriminate. Don't say you want someone of a particular age, sex, race, religion, disability or any other protected characteristic, unless the law allows it for that job. Ask for "the right to work in the UK", never a nationality.
  • Pay at least the legal minimum for any work that needs it. Don't advertise unpaid work that should be paid, and call a genuinely voluntary role voluntary.
  • By posting a job, you confirm the advert is lawful, including under the Equality Act 2010. We rely on that.
  • Never ask anyone for money to apply or to start, or for their bank details before they've agreed to work for you.
  • No jobs involving children or vulnerable adults — babysitting, childminding, tutoring or care — from private individuals. Childminders, nannies and care services can list as a business.
  • You can have two jobs open at once. The job shows your first name, the part of town and the ways to reply you ticked — never your surname or your address.

We aren't an employment agency. We don't employ anyone, check employers or applicants, or take part in any arrangement you make. Applicants: check who you're dealing with, and never pay to apply.

Messaging a business

You can message a business or organiser that has claimed its listing.

  • Your message goes to the people who run that business. They see your name as it was on your account when you started the conversation, and what you write. They don't see your email address. Share your own phone number or email in a message only if you want to.
  • Your messages are private. We only read messages when someone reports a problem or we're looking into abuse. We don't read messages for any other reason, and we never sell or share them.
  • Businesses can only reply. A business can't message you first, and nobody else can message you.
  • Never pay anyone you haven't checked. Businesses claim their listings themselves, and we don't check them at the time. If someone asks you to pay by bank transfer, or for card or bank details in a message, don't. Report it.
  • Messages are kept for 6 years after the last one in a conversation, then deleted. If you delete your account, your messages stay with the business you wrote to, and we delete them 2 years after your account goes.

When you send a message, you agree not to:

  • threaten, harass or abuse anyone, or send anything hateful;
  • try to trick anyone out of money or personal details;
  • send spam or advertising, or the same message to lots of businesses at once;
  • send anything illegal;
  • pretend to be someone else.

Keeping people safe

What's On Dronfield is mostly our own content. What other people can add is limited on purpose: residents can't post publicly or message each other, messages are words only, and nobody under 18 can have an account. Anyone can browse, including children, so we keep the whole site suitable for them.

Not allowed anywhere on What's On Dronfield:

  • anything illegal, including fraud and scams; threats, harassment, stalking or abuse; hate; selling drugs, weapons or other illegal goods or services; and sharing someone's private or intimate images, or sending unwanted sexual images;
  • terrorist content;
  • any content that sexually exploits or abuses a child, or anything sexual involving a child;
  • pornography or other sexual content;
  • content that encourages or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders;
  • bullying, abuse or hateful content aimed at anyone;
  • violent content, dangerous stunts or challenges, and content encouraging the use of harmful substances;
  • spam, and content that is false or misleading.

How we keep it off:

  • Checked first: an administrator, or the business it concerns, checks every event, poster and job sent in by the public before it's published.
  • Checked automatically, then published: a business's own page, events and jobs go up as soon as they're written. Its events and jobs first pass an automatic word check, which holds anything mentioning a death, an accident, a crime, a dispute or a named person for an administrator. Each new business listing is checked automatically overnight, for warning words, spam links, repeated text and one account adding several; clear junk is hidden until an administrator has looked. Posters and documents sent in are read by an AI model, which drafts the details; its reading passes the same word check.
  • Reported: every message has Report and Block on both sides, every business page, event and job has a way to report it, and the database limits how many messages anyone can send.
  • Removed: we look at every report, and take down anything illegal, harmful to children or against these terms as soon as we know about it. Terrorist content and child sexual abuse material are removed at once, and child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Crime Agency.

We don't scan private messages automatically, and no automatic check removes anything by itself for good: an administrator makes every final decision.

Reporting

  • A message: use Report at the foot of the conversation and choose what's wrong. We keep a copy of the messages around it with your report. The other person isn't told who reported them.
  • A business page, an event or a job: use the "Report a problem" link on its page, or the contact form, and tell us what's wrong.
  • An intimate image of you, or of someone you act for, shared without consent: use the contact form and choose "An intimate image shared without consent". You don't need to send us the image. We take it down within 48 hours, with any copies of it we find on What's On Dronfield, and tell you when we have.
  • Anything else, including something you think is illegal: the contact form, choosing "Reporting a problem".

Anyone can report: you don't need an account. We look at every report within 3 working days, and sooner if it looks urgent. If someone is in danger, call 999.

Block stops messages both ways between you and that business, until you lift it.

What we may do after a report or a complaint: remove or change something; close a conversation; pause someone's messaging, for a set time or until we lift it; remove a business's claim to a listing; hide a listing; stop an account claiming or adding businesses; or close an account. We act in proportion to what happened, and we tell the person we've acted against, unless that would put someone at risk or the law stops us. We may pass on to the police anything that looks like a crime. An account run by or for a banned terrorist organisation is closed.

We keep a record of any pause on someone's messaging and any stop on claiming businesses. Deleting an account and joining again with the same email address doesn't undo one that is still in force. The privacy policy says what we keep and for how long.

Complaints and appeals

You can complain to us if:

  • you reported something and you're unhappy with what we did;
  • we removed something of yours, or acted against your account or your messages, and you think we were wrong;
  • you think we aren't doing what these terms say about keeping people safe.

Use the contact form and choose "About a message or a report" (or, for an intimate image, "An intimate image shared without consent", which we deal with first). We'll tell you we've received it, and reply within 10 working days. Where we can, an administrator who wasn't involved in the first decision looks again. If we got it wrong, we'll put it right, for example by putting back what we removed. If you'd rather not hear more from us about it, say so and we won't contact you again about that complaint.

If someone sends us the same complaint over and over with nothing new, or plainly to cause trouble, we may stop answering it, and we'll tell them once that we have. You can also tell Ofcom, the online safety regulator, how we meet our duties, though Ofcom doesn't settle individual complaints.

Adverts and partners

Some businesses pay us. A paid advert is labelled "Partner Ad", and a paid placement is labelled where it appears. Paying never hides another business: every business keeps its free listing, and "How listings work" explains the order businesses are shown in. We don't sell your details to advertisers, and advertisers never see who you are.

Other websites

We link to other websites — a business's own site, a booking page, a job advert. We aren't responsible for them, or for what you agree with them.

Our responsibility to you

  • We run What's On Dronfield with reasonable care and skill, but it's free and we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every listing, event or job is right or still current.
  • The businesses, organisers and employers you deal with are responsible for what they sell, run and offer. We aren't a party to any arrangement you make with them.
  • We aren't responsible for losses that weren't a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms, or for any business losses.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit, and nothing in them takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

If we suspend or close your account

We may pause or close an account that breaks these terms, or to protect other people or the service. Unless it would put someone at risk or the law stops us, we'll tell you what we've done and why, and how to ask us to look again (see Complaints and appeals). We may also close What's On Dronfield, or part of it, and if we do we'll give account holders reasonable notice where we can.

Changes

We'll change these terms when the service or the law changes. The version and date are at the foot. Before a change that affects what you can do, we'll tell account holders by email or in the app, at least 14 days ahead unless the change is needed sooner for safety or by law.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts.

Version: 1, 18 October 2026.
